Early Intervention Counselling & Preventative Mental Health Support

Counselling

Helping young people and families in Croydon overcome emotional barriers through counselling.

Counselling Coffee Mornings

Confidential, non‑judgemental BACP‑aligned counselling and mental health support for anxiety, stress, low mood, trauma and bereavement.

Professional, BACP-aligned counselling combined with life‑pathway mentoring and mental health and wellbeing support. We move beyond one‑off activities to deliver consistent, preventative, early-intervention support that strengthens emotional resilience, improves coping skills, and helps people build stability before challenges escalate, especially when facing anxiety, stress, low mood, depression, bereavement, trauma, relationship difficulties, or major life transitions. We are a local charity at heart, rooted in Croydon and shaped by years of hands‑on community experience in community mental health. Working alongside specialist delivery partners across the Croydon ecosystem, we provide joined‑up, practical support that complements statutory services, bridging gaps between counselling, psychological support, family support, safeguarding pathways, and wider wellbeing services. Our approach is culturally competent, trauma‑informed, and grounded in professional standards, creating lasting impact for young people, adults, and families across Croydon (including New Addington) and beyond.

18 years. Thousands of stories. One community.

Founded by Sarah, a BACP-accredited counsellor with a background in Criminology, the Centre of Change began as a grassroots response to the welfare and mental health of young people in Croydon. From these humble, community-led roots, we have grown into a trusted local institution, championing culturally competent, trauma-informed and evidence-based counselling, psychotherapy and talking therapies to support emotional wellbeing, youth mental health, and family mental health in New Addington and beyond, including support for anxiety, depression, stress, low mood, bereavement, self-esteem, relationships, and life transitions.

At-Risk Youth

Before coming here, I didn’t really talk to anyone about what was going on. I used to get angry a lot and didn’t understand why. Having someone who actually listened and didn’t judge me made a big difference. I feel more in control now and more positive about what I can do next.

School Safeguarding Lead (DSL)

We’ve referred several students to Centre of Change, particularly those at risk of exclusion or struggling emotionally. The difference in engagement and behaviour has been noticeable. They provide a level of consistency and understanding that’s hard to achieve within school alone.

“For patients experiencing low mood, anxiety, or difficult life circumstances, having a trusted local organisation like Centre of Change is invaluable. They offer a more holistic, community-based approach that complements clinical services well.”

We invest in this model because it works. They prove that linking wellbeing to attainment effectively prevents long-term youth unemployment in Croydon’s high-need wards.
